Fungal Culture, Spinal Fluid Test in Kenya

Brief Description

This test is done to detect and identify a fungus from a culture of cerebrospinal fluid. This test is used to help diagnose suspected central nervous system infection caused by a fungus.

A lumbar puncture is used to collect CSF for culture and the patient is required to stay very still while the fluid is being withdrawn.

Isolates of fungi on culture show presence of a fungal infection which may be associated with Candidal meningitis, Cryptococcal meningitis or Fungal infection of central nervous system.
