Brief DescriptionThis test is performed to detect the germs (such as bacteria or a fungus) that are causing a vaginal infection. The test is ordered more oftenly in diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis.

Sample collection ContainerAptima vaginal or unisex swab
Sample collection instructionsSample should be collected by contacting the swab to the lower third of the vaginal wall and rotating the swab for 10 to 30 seconds to absorb fluid. The swab should be placed into the transport tube immediately.
Sample storageMaintain specimen at room temperature or refrigerate (2°C to 30°C).
Results Turnaround3 -4 days after receipt of samples
