Brief Description

This test is performed to detect the germs (such as bacteria or a fungus) that are causing a vaginal infection. The test is ordered more oftenly in diagnosis of bacterial vaginosis.

The patient must not take antibiotics for atleast 3 days before the test

Sample collection instructions

Sample should be collected by contacting the swab to the lower third of the vaginal wall and rotating the swab for 10 to 30 seconds to absorb fluid. The swab should be placed into the transport tube immediately.

Sample storage

Maintain specimen at room temperature or refrigerate (2°C to 30°C).
