Thrombin time Test in Kenya

Brief Description

This test is used to evaluate the activity of fibrinogen in coagulation. Thrombin is the enzyme that acts on fibrinogen in the blood resulting in the formation of fibrin threads that helps form a clot at the site of injury. Thrombin clotting time is"," therefore"," the duration of fibrin clot formation after addition of thrombin to citrated plasma.

Sample collection instructions

Sample should be collected in a 3.2% buffered sodium citrate tube and mixed gently immediately after to ensure adequate mixing of the blood with the anticoagulant. The sample should be centrifuged for 10 minutes and 2/3 of the plasma carefully separated and kept frozen until testing.
